We are a group of people with an intent to institutionalize an alternative to the problematic position of science in the current economic system.
What are the problems with science today?
Science is the intelligence and knowledge of the human as a collective entity. There is no individual science. At the moment it becomes individualized, it becomes pseudoscience. For this reason, it is impossible to speak of a science that is disconnected from the social reality surrounding it. The problems of the economic system directly affect the way the science is produced.
The establishment only funds the research that brings no harm to itself. Furthermore, even in contexts that seem to be politically neutral, there are serious effects. Capitalism reinforces success over failure (also known as ‘publish or perish’). While indirect, this is the effect that impacts the spirit of science way deeper than simply constraining its topic. Even in any innocent topic of science, the sceptic attitude and scientific patience are suspended in the hopes of achieving a crumble of well-packaged success.
Scientific minds are stolen from their lands to perpetuate the superiority of the West. The scientist is often a low-cost immigrant worker, alienated both from their origins and from their current surroundings, turned into a single-dimensional, efficiently functioning bot.
As a result, science and scientific tools are limited to the access of an elite community, completely disconnected from the realities of the people. On the other side, it discourages the poor from any interest in science, to keep them unconfident and obedient. The poor keep living with the myth that only certain individuals can be delegated to do the science on their behalf. This way it protects its control of the means of production.
Why “independent scientists”?
It is possible to institutionalize a scientific consensus out of the current economic system. For this, an independent effort is needed. In very simple words, this is not going to be a funded activity. The system will never pay for its own alternative.
Alternative to the power from the Capital, is the power of Collectivism. We can gather the times and resources of the volunteering people. Even if every individual has limited time, it can be converted to a useful resource when organized properly.
What to do?
At first step, we need to create proof of concepts that illustrate this independent effort. These projects will not only involve voluntary science professionals, but also anyone with a slight bit of interest even if without any experience. Our aim is to prove that people can be a part of science no matter what their academic degrees are, no matter what part of the society they come from.
During this process, we will also create an alternative system of education. By blending professionals and amateurs, we create an environment of learning by doing. Eventually, we will create an accumulation of experiences that will guide the design of the new education system.
